It’s Going Down This Saturday With United States of Mind and JP from the HP at The House of Shamrocks

United States of Mind JP From The HP House of Shamrocks

Whaddup my people.

If you are local to the Detroit area come chill with us this Saturday at the house of Shamrocks.  The flyer says it all.  As you should know by now, United States of Mind, is a collective that I am honored to be a part of.  Shouts have to go to JP from the HP as well.  This video he put together to promote the show is genius in my opinion.

If you like that do yourself a favor and check it out the music video for his song “Standing Ovation” below.  No matter what you end up doing have a great weekend.

Intricate Dialect Releases “Kemet”

Intricate Dialect Kemet album cover
The homie Intricate Dialect has been putting in work on the Michigan hip hop scene for quite some time now and recently released his masterpiece, “Kemet”. It is a concept album deeply rooted in the history and philosophies of Ancient Egypt. I.D.’s lyrics stick close to the Egyptian theme throughout the entire project, but are still relevant to modern-day struggles and ideologies. The unique subject matter brings a refreshing change to the current state of hip hop music and provides the perfect blend of style and intellect.

I was fortunate enough to have the pleasure of working on the Kemet album by producing two tracks on the album (Thutmose ID & Real M.F.) along with recording all of I.D.’s vocals. Producer, Shigeto provided the beat for the album’s opening track while Shady EV handled the production for the rest of the project. The album also features appearances from Tree City’s Gen Pop and Idski’s Abolitionist crew members Tenacity and Kadence.

Name your own price and download Kemet HERE

Allie to form our group, Progress Report, I joined another hip hop collective, MidCoast Most.  In 2005 we released our first album “Worth the Weight” and since then have continued to make new music and do shows around the Metro-Detroit area as well as other venues across the country.  MidCoast Most consists of myself along with J. Walker and Nonsense who were both recently featured on seperate tracks on the Progress Report debut album, Eddie Logix and D. Allie are Progress Report.  On Saturday, June 11th 2011 MCM will be celebrating the release of our sophmore album “The Coast Is Clear” at The Pike Room in downtown Pontiac, MI.  The release party will feature performances from MidCoast Most backed by Gorilla Funk Mob, United States of Mind (D. Allie’s other hip hop crew), SelfSays, Mobil, and Intricate Dialect.  This much anticipated event will also be hosted by RenCen and have DJ 2040 on the wheels of steel throughout the entire night.  As a way of saying thank you to the MidCoast Most fans and supporters, we will be giving out a free copy of our new album to everybody who attends the show along with several other giveways via the event’s sponsors which include Aptemal Clothing, Detroit Underground, Pogo Skate Shop, B.D.T. Pipe & Tobacco, 2 Raw 4 FM, Sterling Dental, and Fine Shine Auto Detailing.  Come out to the show to help us all celebrate and catch live sets from the two crews responsible for bringing Progress Report to fruition.

How Mad Mimi Customer Service Got Us Interviewed On Mothpod

Hey Peeps,

I’ll be honest with you.  The internet is such a gift and a curse for me.  The benefit is it has lowered the cost of entry into the music industry (for me).  The curse is that it lowered the cost of entry into the music industry (for all these other cats. lol).  I also feel at times it makes connections so much more impersonal.  I’d like to consider myself an analog kind of guy trying to fit into a digital age.  However, some of the benefits of the internet far outweigh the costs and making a connection on the internet is great when you can actually meet in person.

mad mimi logoMy email service provider Mad Mimi not only helps me stay in contact with all the people I meet on the internet and my travels, but they also support me and my music specifically.  An employee there, Susan, sends me the occasional message of encouragement.  If you guys only knew what that meant to a starving artist to receive letters of encouragement perhaps you’d send more (and here I am fishing for words of encouragement/compliments).

Anyways, let me get to the point before I completely bird walk off topic.  While I was on tour playing in Chicago Susan came out to the show and I had the pleasure of meeting her and her husband Nick.  Nick has a podcast called the Mothpod and he invited me and A. Biggs on the pod to discuss music among other things.  If the internet produced more in person meetings like this, then I would personally hug Al Gore for inventing it.  Here is the Progress Report / USM interview podcast, if you would like to listen.

P.S. Thanks Susan for the great Mad Mimi customer service!
